Getting Just the Right Rose Gold

When I first started painting, I hated commission pieces! But recently I have done a 180 degree turn and become a big fan. Now I love the challenges that each piece brings. One of my latest clients, Lauren, wanted rose gold along with some other metallics in her painting. I’ve never mixed rose gold before, but, hey, no problem! All of the normal metallics, such as: golds, antique gold, silver and copper, come pre-mixed to perfection in one tube. Rose gold is another matter entirely!

When I was a little girl, I had a rose gold barrette. Using this as my touchstone, I set about mixing small batches of color to try to find just the perfect balance of pink and gold. After several attempts, I was super pleased with the final result.

To me, mixing paint to get unique colors is one of the most fun parts of painting. A lot of the time I will mix the colors together on the canvas, but lately I’ve started mixing some small batches of colors separately to keep for future use. Now I just need to be more diligent about writing down how I make them so I can recreate them!
